Thanks to Reza Manavi for putting this together. How can we make it better?
Hey Brock, Which AG table are you using? I just went to WMA 2015 table and it says a 59-year old male would need a 2:28.61 to age grade to 1:59.99. 2:21 might be out of my reach…although I’d love to have that speed… http://www.howardgrubb.co.uk/athletics/wmalookup15.html.
Hi David, the AG table (and AG calculator in the spreadsheet) on this site uses the same WMA age-grading factors that are used on Howard Grubb’s site. The chart above provides age-graded equivalents to a 2:00.00 performance for a 40-year-old male. So a 2:21.27 at age 59 is the age-graded equivalent of a 2:00.00 at age 40, while a 2:28.61 at age 59 is the age-graded equivalent of a 2:00.00 between the ages of 22 and 34 (the factors in the table are set at 1.00 in that age range).
Working in the table on HG’s site – Enter ‘800m’ in the ‘Distance’ field, enter ’40’ in the ‘Age’ field, enter 2:00.00 in the ‘Time/Distance/Height’ field, and press the ‘Age-Grade’ button. You will see that the ‘Age-Performance %’ is 88.65 and the ‘Age-Graded Result’ is 1:54.06. Now change the ‘Age’ field to ’59’ and press the ‘Result’ button. You will see that the ‘Age-Graded Result’ and ‘Age-Performance %’ stay the same, but the ‘Time/Distance/Height’ field is now 2:21.26.
Target 2:28 if you think that’s more realistic, but don’t give up on 2:21 because you never know … either of those times are great for age 59!
Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or feedback.
How about more of the older standards? In about 17 months I will fall off 😛
Yes, I agree. That has been on the list of things to do. Will try to get this updated ASAP!
How does this look Bryan Burdo?
